How much power you generate is based on how many panels you have and how well those panels work. Therefore, it's important that you calculate the number of solar panels you will need to power your home. You could actually save money by purchasing a small number of efficient panels.

Density of the panels plays a large part in the efficiency of them. Higher density panels tend to cost more, but they are able to produce more power. Be sure and compare densities before choosing a solar panel.

You need to find a reliable way to store your energy after it is produced by your solar energy system. A quality battery is something that you should look into to facilitate proper storage.

Do the math prior to investing in any sort of solar panel system. Installing solar panels may not be a financially sound investment for you. Rushing into solar energy without doing your homework may lead to a nasty surprise.

In a perfect world, the sun could be used to power everything from planes to pickup trucks. Unfortunately, we're not quite there yet. But, there are some smaller appliances that will run on solar power. There are solar powered generators, a great thing to have should power go out for extended period of times.

Keep track of how much energy you use and look for patterns. You need to know how much power you need in order to choose the right system to power your life. This information is vital in selecting the right size solar energy system. Go back over the entire year to see how your energy usage changes throughout the seasons.

Solar panels can be costly, so you may want to buy the smallest number possible. You should have an energy audit done on your home. They can tell you how you are wasting power and help you figure out what to do differently. This can help you cut down on the amount of solar panels that you will need.

Solar panels get typically placed in an ideal location to receive sunlight, but in time, things might get in the way. You don't want trees blocking the sunlight from reaching your panels.

When it comes to solar water-heating systems, it's important that you are realistic about their performance. The best solar water-heating systems are only a fraction as effective as the best electric systems, but having said that, they do save you money. But, just because the sun isn't shining doesn't mean you will be faced with cold showers. Solar-heated water will be warm for up to a whole day.

The potential benefits of solar energy for the world are tremendous. But not everyone is aware of how much solar power has to offer them. With this information in mind, you'll know better than they do.

Chippewa County Recycling Center now only accepting #1 and #2 plastics Citing a market decline, operators of the Chippewa County Recycling Center say it is no longer accepting certain types of plastics. Mike Smith, recycling supervisor for center operator Northern Transitions, confirmed the facility is currently only accepting #1 and #2 plastics. All others — which are numbered 3-7 — will not be taken because there is no longer a market for them and the center has nowhere to ship them. Center officials made the decision to stop accepting #3-7 plastics in August and they are unsure when, or if, they will begin taking them again. Smith said the market decline stems largely from China’s decision to ban #3-7 plastics and the facility now has a couple of loads backed up with no way to get rid of them. “We can only do what we can do to run this (site) efficiently,” he added. In general, #1 plastics are transparent and include items like water and pop bottles. Meanwhile, #2 plastics include containers which are not transparent, like those made to hold laundry detergent or coffee. Milk jugs are also considered a #2 plastic. Smith said the easiest way to tell what type of plastic an object contains is by looking for a triangular shape with a number inside. That number is the type of plastic used in the object. Additionally, he said any object containing two such triangles likely will not be accepted. The new regulations have also been posted at each of the 16 recycling trailers operated by Northern Transitions which are located throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula.

Ernie Bremner and Elane Turner raise a poppy campaign flag at a cenotaph on Queen Street East. Last year, Branch 25 President Wayne Paulencu suggested a Sault Ste. Marie economy that was “not the best” and too few taggers contributed to the drop in dollars collected. The number of members committed to helping is “getting close to 10 right now,” said Tanner, with newer volunteers stepping up alongside more experienced poppy campaign help. “We're looking for more than we had last year,” said Tanner, a Branch 25 member for more than 20 years. She also serves as burial committee chair. Joe Swystun, top tagger for five times in the last six years, returns to his usual post at Walmart on Great Northern Road. He collected nearly $7,000 in 2016. Army, air and navy cadets are expected to tag this weekend and next Saturday and Sunday. Branch 25 starts the campaign, which always begins the last Friday of October, with about 55,000 poppies. Sault Ste. Marie MPP Ross Romano and Mayor Christian Provenzano attended the brief morning ceremony. “I think we need to always remember those who risked their lives for our great nation and those who gave their lives for our great nation,” said Romano in his first appearance as the city's provincial representative at the poppy campaign launch. Provenzano said the poppy spurs people to remember Canada's veterans. “You are the keepers of tradition and you're the keeper of history and you help us to remember,” the mayor told a handful of Branch 25 members. Turner is grateful for the ongoing support Sault residents have shown the legion campaign and other charitable drives in the community.
